Why my alias is not showing in Distro

Your alias is missing from Sending accounts or the campaign From list? Check these causes in order, from refresh to verification to the wrong Google account.

Updated 3 min read

Distro shows an alias only when Gmail lists it under Send mail as for a Google account you connected, Distro has re-read that list since you added it, and the alias is added as a sender in Distro. Most missing aliases come down to one of those three things. Work through the checks below in order.

1. Refresh your addresses in Distro

Distro reads your "Send mail as" list when you connect, click Enable on a sender, or ask it to check. It doesn't re-check in the background.

  1. Under Google accounts, open the โ‹ฎ menu next to the account that owns the alias.
  2. Click Refresh addresses. You should see "Checked with Google."

Refresh adds aliases that are new to the account since Distro last checked. If the alias now appears, you're done. If you were in the campaign composer, reload it so the From list picks up the change.

Refresh addresses is only offered when the account shows Connected. If it shows Reconnect, Missing permission, Revoked or Error, reconnect it first: see Google account disconnected or permission error.

2. Check whether it's listed but waiting for Google

An alias that Gmail lists but hasn't verified shows on the Sending accounts page with the status Waiting for Google, and it isn't offered in the campaign From list. Distro only lets you send from the account's own address and aliases Gmail reports as verified.

  1. Find the verification email Google sent to the alias address and confirm it.
  2. Open the sender in Distro and click Check again.

No verification email? See Gmail alias verification failed.

3. Check that Gmail lists it under "Send mail as"

Receiving mail at an address isn't enough. It has to be a sending identity in Gmail.

  1. Sign in to Gmail as the account you connected to Distro.
  2. Open Settings โ†’ See all settings โ†’ Accounts (personal Gmail: Accounts and Import).
  3. Look under Send mail as.

If the alias isn't there, add it with Add another email address. For a Google Workspace alias, your admin also needs to have added it to your user in the Admin console. See How to add a Google Workspace alias and Add another sending address in Gmail.

New Workspace aliases can take a while to show up in Gmail after the admin adds them.

4. Check you connected the right Google account

Aliases belong to one Google account. If sales@company.com is an alias of ade@company.com but you connected maya@company.com, Distro won't find it.

When you click Enable on a sender, Distro checks every connected account. If none of them has the address, you're sent to Google to sign in; if the account you pick still doesn't have it, Distro explains that the address isn't an address of that account. Sign in with the account that owns the alias, or add the alias to the account you connected.

5. Was it left off or removed in Distro?

When you connect a Google account by adding one address, Distro adds only that address. The account's other addresses, including aliases that already existed, are left off on purpose. Under Google accounts, the account then shows how many addresses are not added, for example "1 more address on this account, not added."

The same goes for an alias you removed with Remove sender: it stays hidden even after a refresh, so a refresh doesn't bring back senders you didn't want.

In both cases, click Add sender, enter the alias and click Enable. Distro finds it in the connected account and adds it, with no new Google sign-in.

6. Check you're signed in to the right Distro account

Senders belong to the Distro login that connected the Google account, and one Google account can only be connected to one Distro account at a time. If a teammate connected the mailbox under their own Distro login, its aliases show up for them, not for you. In that case, Distro shows "The Google account could not be connected." when you try to connect it yourself.

Still not showing?

  • Send yourself a test from Gmail with the alias in the From field. If Gmail can't send from it, fix that in Google first.
  • If Gmail asks for SMTP details when you add the address, read Gmail is asking for SMTP settings.
  • Contact Distro support and tell us the alias, the Google account it belongs to, and what status (if any) you see on the Sending accounts page. Never send us passwords.
