Google account disconnected, permission error or connection failed
Fix a Google account that shows Reconnect, Missing permission, Revoked or Error in Distro, or a Google sign-in that didn't finish.
When Distro loses access to a Google account, it stops sending from that account and asks you to reconnect. In most cases the fix is to click Reconnect and sign in to the same Google account again, allowing both permissions Distro asks for.
Symptoms
- On Sending accounts, the account under Google accounts shows Reconnect, Missing permission, Revoked or Error instead of Connected.
- A sender shows Reconnect Google account, and its details say Google signed the account out.
- A campaign's Delivery tab shows Needs mailbox reconnect, or the Recent activity page shows Reconnect Google account.
- A campaign won't launch and says "No sender mailbox is configured."
- After signing in with Google, Distro shows an error instead of connecting.
Likely causes
| What you see | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Reconnect | Google no longer accepts Distro's access: the password was changed, access was removed in your Google account, a Workspace admin changed app policies, or the sign-in expired. |
| Missing permission | One of the two permissions wasn't allowed on Google's consent screen. Distro needs both. |
| Revoked | Access was revoked for this account. |
| Error | Google sign-in didn't complete properly. |
| Disconnected (or the account is gone from the list) | Someone clicked Disconnect in Distro. Distro deleted its stored access. |
Fix it
- Open Sending accounts.
- Under Google accounts, open the โฎ menu next to the account and click Reconnect. You can also open an affected sender and click Reconnect.
- Sign in to the same Google account.
- On Google's consent screen, allow both permissions (send email, and read-only access to find replies).
- Back in Distro, check the account shows Connected and the senders show Active.
Reconnecting an existing account doesn't use up another sender slot on your plan. If the account was disconnected in Distro, add it again with Add sender and Enable instead.
Error messages after Google sign-in
- "Please allow all the permissions Distro asks for on Google's screen, then try again." Reconnect and tick both permissions. Why Distro needs them.
- "Google sign-in didn't finish, so nothing was connected." You cancelled or closed Google's screen. If Google showed "Google hasn't verified this app", try again, click Advanced, then continue to usedistro.com.
- "That Google sign-in expired. Please try again." Start the connection again from Distro.
- "Google is busy right now. Please try again in a minute." Wait a moment and retry.
- "The Google account could not be connected." Often this Google account is already connected to another Distro account. Disconnect it there first, or ask the teammate who connected it.
- A message about your plan's sender mailboxes. Your plan's limit on connected Google accounts is reached. See Plans, trial and billing.
What happened while it was disconnected
- Sending from that account stopped. Distro doesn't send without valid access, and it retries held emails for a while. If the account stays disconnected for long, some emails may not go out. After reconnecting, check each campaign's Delivery tab and the Recent activity page.
- Replies that arrived while disconnected are caught up when you reconnect, so they appear in the Inbox and stop-on-reply can apply.
To avoid repeats: reconnect after changing the Google password, and don't remove Distro from your Google account's third-party access list unless you mean to disconnect.
