Email Outreach From Your Own Gmail
Send the emails and follow-ups you write from your own Gmail, stop follow-ups automatically when someone replies, and handle every reply in one place.
Distro Outreach connects to your Gmail only when you choose to. It uses Gmail to send the emails you create or approve, and to detect replies, bounces and out-of-office responses to those emails. Mail outside those conversations is never stored.
What Distro Outreach does
Distro Outreach is the email part of Distro. You connect your own Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox, write an email or a short sequence of follow-ups, pick who it goes to, and Distro sends it from your address on a schedule you control. When someone replies, their follow-ups stop and the reply shows up in your Distro inbox, where you can answer it in the same Gmail thread.
- Campaigns: an email plus follow-up steps, sent on a schedule with daily sending limits and natural pacing.
- Compose: a single email to one person, or to a few people who each get their own copy.
- Contacts and lists: add people by hand or import a CSV, and keep an unsubscribe and do-not-contact list.
- Templates and signatures, with file attachments.
- Inbox: replies to your outreach in one place, answered in the original Gmail thread.
- Activity and analytics: what was sent, replies, bounces, unsubscribes, and optional open and click tracking.
How Distro uses your Gmail
Connecting Gmail is optional and only happens when you choose to connect a mailbox. Google shows you the exact permissions before you agree. Distro asks for two, and uses them only for the purposes below.
Send email on your behalf (gmail.send)
Used to send the emails, follow-up steps and replies that you write, schedule or approve in Distro, from your own mailbox. Distro never sends anything you did not create or approve.
View your email messages and settings (gmail.readonly)
Used to read your mailbox address and send-as aliases so you can choose who an email comes from, and to detect replies, bounces and out-of-office responses to emails you sent through Distro, so follow-ups stop when someone replies and replies appear in your Distro inbox.
Messages that are not part of a conversation you started through Distro are discarded immediately and never stored. Your Gmail data is not used for advertising, not sold and never used to train AI models. It is only sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) when you ask for an AI reply draft on a conversation, and then only that conversation. Your Google credentials are stored encrypted.
You can disconnect your mailbox at any time in Distro under Outreach, then Senders, and revoke access from your Google Account permissions page. Deleting your Distro account deletes your stored Outreach data, including stored messages and attachments. The full details are in the Gmail section of our Privacy Policy, and Distro's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Built to protect your sender reputation
- 1Unsubscribe when you want it. Turn on an unsubscribe link and Gmail's one-click unsubscribe for any campaign or email. People who opt out, or reply asking to be removed, are never emailed again.
- 2Stops when people reply. A reply, bounce or unsubscribe ends that person's follow-ups automatically.
- 3Daily limits and pacing. Sending is spread out within your limits instead of going out in bursts.
- 4Responsible-use agreement. Before your first send you confirm you have a lawful reason to email your contacts and will honour opt-outs.

What Gmail permissions does Distro Outreach need?
Two: permission to send email on your behalf, used only to send emails you write or approve in Distro, and permission to view your messages and settings, used only to list your send-as addresses and to detect replies, bounces and out-of-office responses to emails you sent through Distro.
Does Distro read my whole inbox?
No. Distro checks new mail only to find replies to conversations you started through Distro. Anything else is discarded immediately and never stored.
Is my email content used for AI?
Gmail data is never used to train AI models. If you click "Draft reply with AI" on a conversation (or turn on AI auto-replies for a campaign), the text of that one conversation is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, to write a suggested reply that you can edit. OpenAI does not train on data sent through its API. Nothing else from your mailbox is sent.
How do I disconnect Gmail?
In Distro, go to Outreach, then Senders, and disconnect the mailbox. You can also remove Distro's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
Do emails come from my own address?
Yes. Emails are sent through your connected Gmail or Google Workspace mailbox, from your address or one of its send-as aliases, and appear in your Gmail Sent folder.
Why does Google say Distro isn't verified?
When you connect Gmail, Google shows a "Google hasn't verified this app" notice. That's because we haven't finished Google's annual third-party security assessment yet, the final step of Gmail verification. To continue, click Advanced, then Go to usedistro.com. Distro only asks to send email and to read replies to emails it sent, and you can disconnect at any time.
