Choose your daily sending volume

How the Max emails per day setting works in Distro, how plan limits apply, and how to pick and grow a daily volume your mailbox can support.

Updated 3 min read

Each campaign has a Max emails per day setting in its Autopilot settings. New campaigns start at 50. It's the most important number for protecting your mailbox: sending too much too soon is one of the quickest ways to hurt your sender reputation.

Where to set it

  1. Open a draft campaign in Outreach โ†’ Campaigns.
  2. In Settings, click the sliders icon next to Autopilot.
  3. Under Sending rate, enter Max emails per day. Leave it empty for no campaign limit.
  4. Click Apply. The Autopilot row shows the new value, for example "30/day".

The value is fixed once the campaign launches. The campaign Overview shows it under Settings โ†’ Daily limit.

In an Email + LinkedIn campaign, the same setting is in Settings โ†’ Sending hours (50 a day by default) and applies to its emails. LinkedIn steps follow your separate LinkedIn daily limits. See LinkedIn daily limits, pace and safety pauses.

How the limit works

  • It counts every email the campaign sends that day: first emails and follow-ups together. On busy follow-up days, fewer first emails go out.
  • It resets daily in the campaign's timezone. Emails that don't fit roll over to the next allowed sending day.
  • It's per campaign, not per mailbox. Two campaigns from the same sender, each at 50, can send up to 100 emails a day from that mailbox. Plan the total for each mailbox yourself.
  • It works with pacing. Emails are also spaced by Delay between emails and only sent inside your sending hours, so a short window can send fewer than your limit. The Summary in the Autopilot dialog estimates how long the first email will take to reach everyone.

During the free trial, a campaign set above 50 still sends at most 50 a day. If the trial ends without a plan, campaign emails are held and continue once you pick a plan. See Plans, trial and billing.

Distro's limit is separate from Google's. Google enforces its own limits on your Google account (Gmail or Google Workspace), and Distro can't raise them. See Gmail sending limits explained.

Choosing a number

There's no single right volume. What a mailbox can support depends on its age and history, your domain's authentication, how well your list fits, and how recipients respond.

Your situationA sensible approach
New mailbox or new domainStart low and increase gradually over several weeks. See How to prepare a new sending account
Established mailbox, first cold campaignStart at or below the default and watch results for a week
Established mailbox with healthy resultsIncrease in small steps, one change at a time

Getting more volume safely

  • Add mailboxes rather than pushing one harder. Several well-set-up senders, each at a moderate volume, are safer than one mailbox at a high volume. Your plan decides how many sender mailboxes you can connect.
  • Keep the delay between emails. Bursts of email look automated; spacing looks like a person.
  • Use sending hours that match your recipients' working day.

Good setup and gradual growth can improve how your emails are received, but mailbox providers decide where every email lands. No volume setting guarantees inbox placement.
