How Distro SEO content works
How the SEO & Content engine plans topics from your GTM report and Search Console, writes articles ahead of time and publishes them to your blog.
Distro's SEO & Content engine plans blog topics for your product, writes each article a couple of days before it is due, and then publishes it (or waits for you) the way you choose. You control how much it does on its own: from "write drafts and wait for me" to fully automatic publishing.
You'll find it under SEO & Content in the sidebar. The page is called SEO Content Engine.
The engine at a glance
- Your GTM report + Google Search Console
- Planner: fills your post days for the next 2 weeks
- Writer: drafts each article 2 days before its post day
- Your review in Drafts (skipped only by Autoblog)
- Publishing: auto-schedule, manual, CMS draft or Autoblog
- Your blog
- Planning. The planner keeps the next 14 days of your post days filled with topics. It only fills empty days, so it never piles up duplicates, and it never plans more articles than you have left in your monthly allowance.
- Writing. Each planned topic becomes an article about two days before its post day, so a review is waiting for you before the publish date.
- Review. Written articles land in the Drafts tab with the status Ready for review. You can edit, approve or send them back.
- Publishing. What happens next depends on the mode you pick in Settings โ After an article is written. See Publishing content: modes and connected sites.
Before you start
- A completed GTM report. The planner builds topics from your GTM plan, so it won't plan anything without one. If you don't have one yet, the Overview tab shows Generate your distribution intelligence first. See Generate (and refresh) your GTM plan.
- A connected blog (recommended). Without one, articles are still written for review, but they can't be published from Distro. You can always export Markdown or HTML instead.
- Google Search Console (optional). Connecting it lets the planner use your real search data, so topics come from searches you already appear in.
Turn the engine on
The engine is off by default, so it never writes articles (or uses your article allowance) until you opt in.
- Open SEO & Content. The card at the top of Overview shows Content engine off.
- Click Turn on the engine. Distro saves the setting and immediately plans your next two weeks.
- Alternatively, open the Settings tab, switch on Run the content engine, pick a mode under After an article is written, and click Save settings.
Once it's on, the card shows Content engine running (or needs attention if something is blocking it), your mode, your post days and how many articles you've used this month. Expand it to see what's coming up over the next two weeks and how many drafts are waiting for review.
Where topics come from
The planner picks topics in this order and skips anything that duplicates an article or keyword you already have:
- Google Search Console opportunities: searches your site already appears for, where a new article or a refresh could win more clicks (see Search Diagnosis below).
- Your GTM report's content opportunities.
- Suggestions based on your keyword clusters from the GTM report and the SEO audit, used only when the first two run out.
If Search Console isn't connected or its sync fails, topics come from your GTM report and SEO audit only.
Post days
Post days decide when articles are planned and published. You set them in Settings โ Post days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday (the default), Weekly, Every 2 weeks, Monthly, or Daily (Scale), which needs the Scale plan.
In Autoblog mode, the post days are set by your plan instead: Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Growth, daily on Scale.
The tabs
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Overview | Engine status, pipeline counts (Connected blogs, Drafts to review, Scheduled, Published, Keywords tracked), the SEO audit and fix recommendations, AI Citation Readiness, Domain Metrics, Keyword Clusters, publishing setup and Recent activity. |
| Search Diagnosis | Connect Google Search Console and turn real search data into article ideas and refresh briefs. |
| Drafts | Every idea and article, with its status. Edit, approve, publish, schedule or export. |
| Calendar | Your planned, drafted, scheduled and published posts by date. |
| Internal Links | Suggested links from your articles to your key pages. Accept or ignore them. |
| Connect Blog | Connect WordPress, Ghost, Webflow, Shopify and other platforms. |
| Settings | Brand voice, audience, CTA, publishing mode, post days and article format. |
Settings and blog connections are per product. If you run more than one product, switch product first. See Manage your products.
Search Diagnosis and refresh briefs
On the Search Diagnosis tab, click Connect Google Search Console, sign in with Google, then choose your property with Load properties and Use property. Distro only asks for read-only access to Search Console.
After a sync (automatic daily, or click Sync 90 days), you'll see impressions, clicks, queries tracked and average CTR, plus a list of Search-backed opportunities. Each one has a score and a suggested next step:
- Edit title & meta: the page ranks but few people click.
- Generate refresh brief: an existing page is close to page one, slipping, or seeing rising demand. The idea is saved as a refresh of that page rather than a brand-new topic.
- Generate new draft: there's demand but no strong page for it.
- Monitor: not enough signal yet.
Click Create idea to add an opportunity to Drafts.
Internal links
When Distro writes an article, it also suggests internal links to your other pages: pages synced from your blog with Sync posts on the Connect Blog tab, and articles you've already published from Distro. Review them on the Internal Links tab with Accept or Ignore. Accepted links are inserted into the article.
In Autoblog mode, suggested links are accepted and inserted automatically before publishing. In every other mode, nothing is linked until you accept it.
How many articles you get
Each article Distro writes counts against your plan's monthly allowance for that product, whether you clicked Generate or the engine wrote it. A full Regenerate also counts. Publishing doesn't.
| Plan | Articles per month, per product |
|---|---|
| Growth | 12 |
| Scale | 30 |
| Free trial | 3 |
The allowance resets on the 1st of each month. When you reach it, the engine card shows Monthly article limit reached and the date new articles resume. See Plans, trial and billing.
