Change your From name and Reply-To address
Set the From name recipients see, add a Reply-To address to a campaign or single email, and learn which settings Distro takes from Gmail.
Your From name is set per sender on the Sending accounts page and applies to every email from that sender. A Reply-To address is optional and set per campaign (or per email in Compose). The From address itself can't be edited: to send from a different address, choose or add a different sender.
The parts of the From line
When a prospect receives your email, their inbox shows something like:
Maya Chen <maya@yourcompany.com>- Maya Chen is the From name. You control it in Distro.
- maya@yourcompany.com is the From address. It must be your Google account's address or a verified alias of it.
Change the From name
- Go to Outreach โ Sending accounts.
- Click the sender.
- Edit the Name field. The inbox preview next to it shows how it will look.
- Click Done. You'll see "Sender saved."
The new name applies to emails sent from that point on, including follow-ups in campaigns that are already running. Emails already sent keep the name they were sent with.
Good From names are short and recognisable: your first and last name, or your name plus your company ("Maya from Northwind"). Avoid all caps, symbols or anything that looks like a subject line.
What Distro takes from Gmail, and what it doesn't
| Setting | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| From address | Gmail: your account address or a verified Send mail as alias. Distro can't add or edit these. |
| From name | Distro's Name field. Falls back to Gmail's name for the address if empty. |
| Reply-To | Distro's Reply to field on the campaign or email. A Reply-To address configured on the alias in Gmail is not applied to Distro emails. |
| Signature | A Distro signature chosen in the campaign's Signature setting. Your Gmail signature is not added. |
Changing the name in Distro does not change anything in your Google account.
Add a Reply-To address to a campaign
By default, replies go to the From address. To send replies somewhere else:
- Open the campaign.
- In the first email, open the โฎ menu (More email options) on the From line.
- Click Reply to.
- Enter one email address, for example replies@yourcompany.com.
The Reply-To applies to every email in the campaign, including follow-ups. To remove it, remove the Reply to row. Make sure it's a single, valid address, otherwise no Reply-To is added.
For a single email in Compose, use the Reply-to field. If you leave it empty, replies go to your sender.
When to use Reply-To (and when not)
Use it only when replies genuinely need to reach another address, and that address delivers into the mailbox that sends the campaign (for example an alias of the same Google Workspace user). Otherwise you trade away reply detection.
Skip it in most cold email. A Reply-To that differs from the From address is one more thing that can look unusual to recipients and their mail filters, and it splits conversations away from where Distro tracks them.
Signatures
Campaign emails only include a signature if you choose one in the campaign's Signature setting. If it shows No signature, nothing is added. Create and manage signatures in Templates โ Signatures. Distro adds the chosen signature to the end of every email in the campaign.
